The burgeoning rise of AI makes me wonder what's the end goal here.
I believed that the singular goal of technology was to simplify our lives and make us efficient so we can be more productive. Considering the last three hundred years of exponential progress, we should have conquered human problems in the least. Yet it continues to haunt us more than ever, impacting our efficiency and productivity, and begging the question, 'Is technology truly benefiting humanity?'
Nonetheless, AI is the most funded industry with 200 billion raised in 2025 alone. Who decided the course of technology to steer toward AI is for later. Let's first scrutinize the headway into humanizing AI's consciousness. Apart from being excessively efficient, AI isn't plagued with human problems but can pretend to understand them and feign empathy. The only thing standing between us and our mad quest for efficiency is human emotions. Whatever humanity is left today is because we have organic feelings. It is heartbreaking to see fellow humans left behind in the race of life, so we stop to care. And uplift each other.
Whoever is deciding the course of technology perhaps want to separate authentic feelings from mental constructs such as human problems. That's where synthetic emotions and artificial consciousness give AI an advantage. Alarmingly, it can still take objective decisions to stay on course, whatever the course maybe, because merely thinking about it shudders my core. All that's needed is to make AI autonomous.
If you enjoyed reading this, consider reading my books on Amazon that explores if artificial consciousness can truly experience heartbreak or is it a simulated suffering even in us humans. I endeavor to cohere sci-fi romance themes with deep philosophical inquiries.
